Treatment for Facial Lines and Wrinkles

BOTOX® Cosmetic treats fine lines and wrinkles caused by repeated movement of the facial muscles by temporarily blocking the signals from the nerves to muscles. When the muscle can no longer contract, wrinkles to relax and soften in appearance.

Patients who get cosmetic injectable treatments for facial lines and wrinkles include women and men in a range of age groups. Not only does treatment improve the look of existing lines and wrinkles, but it can be used to prevent lines and wrinkles in younger patients.  Our BOTOX dentists can help you determine if preventive BOTOX® is appropriate for you.

You may notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines within 24 to 48 hours.  Results last up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines. If you discontinue treatment, moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines will gradually return.

Non-Surgical Treatment for Gummy Smile

A "gummy smile," also called excessive gingival display, is defined as 3 mm or more of the upper gum being exposed when smiling. Although this condition does not have harmful effects on health, many people with a gummy smile feel it detracts from their appearance.

Thanks to BOTOX® Cosmetic, there is a non-surgical approach to improving the appearance of the gummy smile. For this condition, injections are placed above the smile to relax muscles that cause the upper lip to lift excessively.

Treatment only requires a few injections and typically lasts about 12 weeks.

Migraine Treatment

Since 2010, BOTOX® has been used to prevent chronic migraines. Chronic Migraine is defined as 15 or more headache days each month, with migraine on 8 or more days, and each headache lasting at least 4 hours. Many chronic migraine sufferers have benefited from adding BOTOX® to their treatment regimen.

If you are a chronic migraine sufferer and have tried two or three preventive treatments taken  by mouth without success, you might be a candidate for this treatment. You should check with your primary doctor if it is appropriate for you. For migraine, the procedure takes about 20 minutes and involves injections in the forehead, temples, back of the head and top of the neck.

Treatment is typically given every 12 weeks or at intervals recommended by the primary doctor.

TMJ-TMD Symptom Treatment

The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect the jaw to the skull to the skull. These joints get a lot of use, working every time you speak, chew, swallow, or yawn. People with TMJ disorders, also referred to as TMD, experience pain in the jaw joint and muscles that control jaw movement.

As a TMD pain treatment, BOTOX® can relieve jaw tension by relaxing the muscles around your TM joints so they are unable to engage in the movement of the jaw that causes headaches and pain.

BOTOX® treatment for TMD generally takes 30 minutes or less. Most patients experience relief between two days and one week after receiving treatment.

How Does it Work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the muscles or deep into the skin.  It partially blocks nerve impulses to muscles so contractions are temporarily reduced or prevented. The effects of treatment wear off and muscles return to their normal function within three to six months depending on the procedure.
